What Dental Professionals are Saying About QuickSplint

QuickSplint has filled a small hole in my toolbox by enabling me to quickly fabricate devices to help patients with orofacial pain while the lab makes their custom splints — and I’ve found a few other uses for it too.  QuickSplint absolutely has a place in my practice. Hard-hit double in the power alley for Orofacial Therapeutics!

I’m using the QuickSplint for cosmetic cases. This includes everything from recording open bite centric occlusion records to provisional protection and final prosthesis protection. Used as a diagnostic tool, as a first line of treatment or as a step in treatment, QuickSplint is a valuable treatment tool.

Destruction of the dentition from grinding and clenching is a significant problem for patients and dentists alike. Often the amount of damage will necessitate complex restorative dentistry to restore the teeth. For early recognition and treatment of potential parafunction, I have found QuickSplint to be a convenient and easy anterior bite plane design that can be applied on a trial basis to patients almost universally.

Lee Ann Brady, DMD
Dental educator, lecturer and writer

I teach the use of, and use the anterior bite plane appliance. It is far and away the most prescribed appliance I use. For patients who present with muscle pain, QuickSplint is an excellent therapeutic and diagnostic aid.

QuickSplint is great as a temporary appliance prior to getting an orthotic fabricated, as a deprogrammer, as a night guard to go over Invisalign trays, as a temporary night guard over your veneer temps or reconstruction cases, and as a temporary appliance over your newly seated cosmetic or reconstruction cases.

Being able to fit a patient with a temporary splint immediately after an examination is most satisfactory for me. Previous to QuickSplint, we would make temporary appliances. This entailed staff time and materials. Now with QuickSplint, in less than two minutes we have a device ready to use and our patients benefit greatly.

Occlusal trauma can be a problem for periodontal and implant surgery healing. If you want to encourage soft tissue or bone healing then minimizing occlusal forces is a definite advantage. This is especially advantageous in immediate load implant placement. We seek to maximize successful surgical outcomes with all of our procedures and offering our patients a QuickSplint during their post-operative healing has proven helpful and adds comfort for the patient.

QuickSplint is an excellent option for temporary treatment of acute myofascial pain, prevention of bruxism- related endodontic post-operative pain, and for increasing the sensitivity and specificity of endodontic testing when the diagnosis is clouded by bruxism-related symptoms.

Muscular and endodontic pain happen in conjunction many times. Myogenic pain is very often confused as odontogenic pain. Endodontic treatment is unnecessarily completed and the patient’s pain remains. I use the QuickSplint as a non-invasive, inexpensive test to rule out muscular pain if I am uncertain about an endodontic origin. As a patient, I would much prefer a QuickSplint as a test instead of endodontic therapy as a test.

The QuickSplint is an essential tool in my practice. It is an effective and easy way to provide short-term mechanical protection to certain teeth. It is also very effective in aiding my diagnosis of various pain conditions.
